John J. Desjarlais writes short fiction, poetry, historical novels and the Reed Stubblefield mystery series (represented by The Jan Dennis Literary Agency). John also teaches creative writing, genre literature (including Science Fiction, Detective Fiction, and The Bible as Literature), and journalism at Kishwaukee College in northern Illinois.

Recent publications: John’s poem “Zipper” appeared in the Spring 2007 issue of The Rockford Review. John’s essay “Deconstructing the Cathedral” was accepted for the May issue of “The New Pantagruel,” an online journal of literature and cultural commentary. A short story, “Assisted Living,” took First Prize for Fiction in the 2006 Phidian Art Society of Illinois Literary Contest; the story is posted on John’s blog. Another short story, “Saint Patrick in Training,” was published in the Summer 2006 issue of The Rockford Review. My poem “The Reindeer on State Street” took Honorable Mention in the Illinois Ides of March contest in March 2006. The poem is posted at the blog.
